On Monday, the Chairman of the Nepalese National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, and China’s senior lawmaker Zhao Leji met in Beijing to discuss advancing bilateral legislative cooperation.

The leaders of the two nations have upgraded the China-Nepal relationship to a strategic partnership of collaboration including enduring friendship for growth and prosperity, according to Zhao, chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee.

Zhao said that China is ready to cooperate with Nepal to advance the development of a more intimate community with a shared destiny between the two countries.

Zhao said that mountains and rivers connect China and Nepal, and that the two peoples have a common interest in the two nations’ cordial and cooperative ties.

Zhao said that China appreciates Nepal’s steadfast and continuous commitment to the one-China policy as well as its invaluable assistance on matters pertaining to China’s fundamental concerns and interests.

In addition, Zhao said, China respects the development path selected by the Nepali government and people in light of their unique national circumstances and stands solidly behind Nepal in preserving its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

In order to jointly advance regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity, he urged both parties to carry out infrastructure projects, keep expanding the Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network, and intensify their cooperation in a number of areas. He also said that China welcomed Nepal’s support for and participation in the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative.

Zhao stated that the Chinese National People’s Congress (NPC) is willing to continue enhancing communications with the Nepalese National Assembly at all levels, consolidate social and public support for friendly China-Nepal cooperation, offer legal security for practical cooperation in a number of areas, improve coordination and cooperation between multilateral institutions, and protect the shared interests of developing nations.

According to Timilsina, Nepal and China have always had a strong relationship in terms of geography, culture, and history. The one-China policy is strongly upheld by Nepal, and the country will not let any force to exploit its territory for anti-China actions.

According to Timilsina, the Belt and Road Initiative has helped Nepal see real results. She also said that the Nepalese National Assembly is eager to further its cordial relations with the Chinese NPC and fully use the active role that legislatures play in advancing international collaboration.
